Welcome to Team Maunga Iti blog. We have started the year with a small class of 7 students but we will be growing throughout the term. This blog will let you see what is happening in our class this year. We welcome Ridge Tuckey and Rosie Ritchie to our class.
Beginning of year 2023
Welcome to our second day of school in Team Maunga. Great to see Taonga and Jordyn back and welcome to Hone. Also a big welcome to Miss Serena Gilmore 🙂 We were so happy today to see the sunshine and get an overdue dose of vitamin D! This afternoon we had a quick visit to the library, so next Wednesday we will be able to issue books to take home.

Visit from Sean Scully and his ginormous dog
Today we had a visit from Sean and his Irish Wolfhound Atlas. He read his book “THE S’COLLARSHIP PRIZE” which is about his previous dog Barnacle. Atlas is only 8 months old and already weighs 46kg. When he is fully grown he will weigh 90kg! Atlas is a very calm and friendly dog that the tamariki all enjoyed patting and giving attention to.

Vaseline Saucer creations
Thank you to all the whānau who brought in the lovely flowers today. We have used them to create our vaseline saucers ready for Pet Day tomorrow. Some of the tamariki were very clever and made symmetrical patterns.

Worm Farming
We had a visit from Anouk from EcoSolutions to talk and show Team Maunga Iti how to make and look after a worm farm. The children were very excited to see the Tigerworm. They also were able to find eggs in the compost using a stick to find them. We then looked at what food worms like to eat and the foods that they don’t like to eat.

Life Education – Learning with Harold
This week we had the Life Education caravan at school. Harold the giraffe and Whaea Sharee shared lot of ways to help us be happy and healthy. We need lots of sleep, healthy food and water, keep clean, be kind, do exercise regularly and to be kind. It was lots of fun playing games and doing puzzles in the magical caravan.

Life Education Trust visit
Team Maunga Iti visited the life Education caravan to learn about what our basic needs to stay healthy are . They also learnt about things that we do can BUG other people or BOOST other people.

Festival Movies
This term we have been busy planning and creating our class movie with the theme of “Our Place”. We hope you enjoy it.
The Missing Blu-Tack by Maunga
Here is our movie based on the theme ‘Our Place.’
Maunga brainstormed a problem in our class and came up with the Blu-Tack always going missing!
We then created a storyboard to include our local community in the story. We chose places where we wanted to investigate the missing Blu-Tack problem.
Cash was our main camera operator and shot the scenes for our movie. Finley helped with the filming of putting the iPad in Miss Stewart’s drawer.
We are so proud of this team collaboration.
